Without artificial snow, the season becomes shorter and for those ski slopes who do not consider themselves able to afford snow cannons, they are forced to close large parts of the business during hot or snowy winters.
Kassjöbacken outside Umeå is run by Lapplands-Äventyr AB, which is owned by the contractor Frank Larsen and for him the income is too low for a snow cannon to carry.
- Yes, I am well in the choice and qualifying, but there are not that many more weekends I can have open to earn a snow cannon again. And with staff and electricity costs then it becomes problematic, says Frank Larsen, operations manager for Kassjöbacken.
