09 January 202005.06 The number of forest fires in the Brazilian Amazon increased by 30% in 2019 compared to the previous year. The National Institute for Space Research (INPE) of Brazil has announced this. The increase was greatest in the Pantanal, the largest wetland on the planet, the sanctuary of biodiversity, with 6 times more fires in a year. A total of 89,178 fires were recorded in the Brazilian Amazon in 2019, in 2018 they were 68,345.
