Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has announced the closure of Umm Suqeim Street after the intersection of Al Khail Road, for a temporary period not indicated.

The authority said that the street was closed after the intersection of Al Khail Street, heading east to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Street, and diverting traffic towards alternative roads to Al Khail Street and Hessa Street.

In 2013, the authority opened the intersection linking the Hessa and Al Khail and Al Barsha streets with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street. The intersection serves traffic from and to Al Barsha via Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and provides free traffic in all directions, in addition to the areas surrounding the intersection, which are under development.

Road network development projects in that area included the expansion of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, with a length of approximately 10 kilometers, from 3 tracks to 6 tracks in each direction. These included the construction of a bridge intersection instead of the current surface intersection with Al Barsha Street, to serve the new development areas between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Al Khail Roads, and the establishment of a bridge link that passes over Al Houd Roundabout, consisting of 5 tracks linking the Al Yais Street coming from Jebel Ali and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, These include 3 tracks towards Dubai, and two tracks towards Abu Dhabi, with a total length of approximately 2.5 km.
