According to the police, it is mainly international and national fraudsters who commit these crimes. In recent weeks, police in the South region have seen a new trend in which offenders pretend to be police officers.

- We have seen that the perpetrators, among other things, have claimed that someone related to something serious and that they then need to identify with bank ID to get more information. In this way, the perpetrators gain access to the assets of the plaintiff, says Mikael Hedström, police spokesperson for the Mitt region.

The approach has essentially been as follows: The perpetrators call older people and pretend to be from the police. Then you tell a false story in order to access the victim's valuables or money. The gunmen have then plunged into the home of the victim to complete the crime. The perpetrators have mainly sought out women aged 80-103 years. According to SVT Skåne, at least 70 people must have been the victims of the false police in Skåne, Blekinge and Southern Småland. About 10 of these crimes should have been completed.

Can come anytime

Police say anyone can be harmed by the leagues that carry out these scams. In addition, there are often amounts in the multi-million class.

- Once they decide, it will be in just a few hours, then an entire area can be affected. They rely on a large number of people and anyone can suffer. It's terrible, ”says Mikael Hedström.

According to the police, there is a great risk that the fraud trend is spreading upwards in the country.

- This type of crime is always moving upwards. Similar crimes that occur in Ystad are usually seen later in Kiruna. It often moves along the E4 upwards in the country.
