The Oscars, Hollywood’s most attended evening, will take place on February 9 without the title host as for the previous edition, organizers said on Wednesday.
"With the Academy (of the Oscars, note), we decided that there would be no master of ceremonies, which had worked well last year," declared according to the magazine Deadline the patron of the chain ABC, Karey Burke.
A spokeswoman for ABC, which broadcasts the Academy Awards, confirmed the statements to AFP.
After a series of setbacks and controversy - last year's candidate Kevin Hart threw in the towel after the resurgence of old tweets deemed homophobic - the organizers decided for the first time in thirty years to do without " Mr. Loyal "responsible for spouting jokes and ensuring transitions.
The idea was to give rhythm to a spectacle in loss of audience and to maintain it in an acceptable duration (three hours) and had resulted in a success, with a clear increase of the televiewers.
