The last international inventory of song swans was completed in 2015, when 891 song swans were reported on Gotland, which is more than twice the inventory compared to 2010, when 413 song swans were reported.

- In the 50's when I started to see bird it was a rare bird. But there has been a fantastic increase over the last 20 years, says Stig Lindvall, vice chairman of the Bird Association in Norrköping.

"It's very fun"

In Östergötland, 598 song swans were reported in 2015, which is significantly more than in 2010, when 75 song swans were reported.

- It's very fun. The singing swan is a very nice species, and partly it has a fun song, says Stig Lindvall.

What is the reason for the increase?

- Much is due to fluctuations. But the food supply is good and the supply of breeding places is good, says Stig Lindvall.

This year's inventory is intended to cover the whole of Europe in connection with the traditional midwinter inventory 11-12 January 2020.
