Following a request for the arrest of Interpol and a request filed by lawyers concerning a visit to Israel by the former CEO of Renault-Nissan, Carlos Ghosn is summoned on Thursday by the Lebanese prosecutor's office

Carlos Ghosn has been summoned to an "interrogation to be held Thursday (…) to listen to his testimony about the red notice" communicated to Interpol by Japan, where the businessman, on the run, is the subject of charges financial embezzlement, according to the ANI agency.

A request for an interpellation from Interpol

Lebanon, which said it has no extradition agreement with Japan, announced last week that it had received a request for arrest from Interpol. Carlos Ghosn, holder of French, Lebanese and Brazilian nationalities, is the subject of four indictments in Japan: two for deferred income not declared to the stock exchange authorities by Nissan (who is also prosecuted on this aspect), and two others for abuse of confidence worsened.

On Thursday, Carlos Ghosn will also give his "testimony" concerning a report submitted to Lebanese justice by Lebanese lawyers, "on his entry into enemy country and his meeting with a number of Israeli leaders," said the agency ANI.

A controversial visit to Israel

While still president of Renault-Nissan, Carlos Ghosn traveled to Israel in 2008 as part of a partnership to launch an electric car. Neighboring countries, Lebanon and Israel are technically at war, and Beirut prohibits its nationals from going to Israel or having contacts in the Hebrew state.

On social networks, users have shared in recent days an old photo taken in Jerusalem showing Carlos Ghosn and the late Israeli President Shimon Peres. Arrested Wednesday on this issue at a press conference in Beirut, Carlos Ghosn "apologized" to the Lebanese for this visit. "I went there as general manager of Renault," he said. "I went there as a Frenchman, because of a contract between Renault and an Israeli company."
