Today, Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit to Damascus, and met with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad at the headquarters of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria.

"From the airport, Vladimir Putin went to the headquarters of the Russian armed forces in the Syrian Arab Republic," Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

He added, "At the headquarters, Putin met with the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, and the two heads of state heard military reports on the situation in different regions of the country."

This is Putin's first visit to Syria since his visit to the Hmeimim Russian Air Force Base in Latakia in 2017.
