Putin emphasized that on bright Christmas days, millions of people around the world experience joy and sincere enthusiasm, as well as special feelings of familiarity with centuries-old traditions passed down from generation to generation.

The President also noted that the Russian Orthodox Church and other Christian denominations in Russia play a huge creative role in strengthening the spiritual and moral foundations of society, in preserving the historical and cultural heritage and in educating young people.

It was previously reported that Putin took part in the Christmas service at the Transfiguration Cathedral in St. Petersburg.
