A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck the island of Puerto Rico early Tuesday. It is the most powerful of a series which touched the American island since December 28, announced the American institute of geophysics (USGS).

The epicenter was recorded 13.6 km south of the coastal city of Ponce (south), at a depth of seven kilometers, according to the USGS, which revised its initial measurement slightly down from 6.6. It is not expected to cause a tsunami, according to the Tsunami Warning Center, which canceled an initial warning.
