US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Facebook owner and founder Mark Zuckerberg congratulated him on appearing on the famous social network.

"I had dinner with Mark Zuckerberg the other day, and he said," I want to congratulate you, you're number 1 on Facebook +, "said Mr. Trump in the radio show by conservative host Rush. Limbaugh, which he is close to.

It was difficult to say whether the Republican billionaire was referring to a recent meeting. According to NBC, Mr. Trump in particular hosted Mark Zuckerberg at the White House for a dinner during the month of October.

Renewing his attacks on the media, described as "corrupt", the President stressed the importance of social networks for him.

"I would prefer not to have to go through them, I would prefer to have credible newspapers, but this is not the case," he insisted.

"Without Twitter, I think we would be lost, we would never get the truth out," he added.

The @realDonaldTrump account, which the President uses daily, has nearly 70 million subscribers.
