The forces of Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the strongman of eastern Libya, announced on Monday January 6 that they had entered the city of Sirte (450 km east of Tripoli), hitherto under the control of forces from the government of national unity (GNA), based in Tripoli and recognized by the UN.

Pro-Haftar forces said in a statement that they had taken control of al-Gordabiya airport in Sirte, after "the armed force responsible for protecting the airport surrendered", and "moved forward with determination city ​​center".
