An anti-terrorist operation is underway on the border with Côte d'Ivoire. On Saturday, bombings were heard towards the locality of Alidougou, in the south-west of the country, about ten kilometers from the Ivorian border. This complex raid was set up by the Burkinabè armed forces.

" Bombings, detonations, explosions " ... It was with a deafening din that the population of Alidougou was awakened on Saturday. Since then, a major military operation has been underway, according to a source at the army staff. The objective is to dismantle a terrorist cell, hidden in the surrounding forests. " Air and land resources " have therefore been mobilized.

It is not the first operation of this kind carried out by the Burkinabè army in this region. Already last October, similar means were deployed.

The border between Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire is today considered dangerous . In mid-December, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs placed it in the red areas of its travel advice card.

This forest region has always been a corridor for traffic, gold panning and poaching. The terrorists would also take advantage of its porosity to cross the border.

In July, Côte d'Ivoire launched the “Waterproof Border” operation: deploying 300 soldiers over nearly 1,200 kilometers in the north of the country. According to an Ivorian government source, the Burkinabè and Ivorian presidents must meet to discuss the establishment of joint operations.
