Six German students dead after car drove into crowd in Italy

The incident should have occurred shortly after 01 am during the night towards Sunday.

The group of 17 people must have been near a tourist bus when the incident occurred.

According to both German and Italian media, the group consists of students from Germany, but at nine o'clock on Sunday morning it was still not clear where they came from.

160 people from the emergency services must be on site and work on the accident. On Twitter, you write:

"A serious traffic accident involving 11 injured and six dead occurred in Lutago last night".

Six people were killed on the scene, eleven were taken to hospitals, three with serious injuries. A woman has also been taken by helicopter to a hospital in Austria.

The car must have kept high speed and the driver must be a 28-year-old man. He must have survived the crash and been taken to hospital for examination.

According to the local police, the driver may have had high blood levels in the blood and waiting for hospital tests, Italian media reports.

It was initially unclear whether it was an accident or whether it was an intentional act, but during Sunday morning, local authorities should have leaned more on it being an accident. A press conference is planned by the police on Sunday.

Lutago, located in the South Tyrol of northern Italy, is a popular tourist destination.

At the end of December, three German tourists were killed in an avalanche in the same area.
