According to Reuters, the Iraqi Parliament will hold an extra-session on Sunday to propose a resolution calling for the government to demand withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

"No need for attendance"

The details of the meeting come two days after the US drone attack on a convoy at Baghdad airport that killed several people, including Iranian militia commander Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

In a statement, MP Ammar al-Shibli said:
"There is no need for the presence of US forces after defeating IS. We have our own armed forces that can protect the country. "

Fighting side by side

About 5,000 US troops remain in Iraq today since the war against IS, 2014-2017, when the troops fought side by side with Iran-backed militias. According to data, most people today have advisory tasks.

Many Iraqis have expressed anger at the US for killing the two men and since the attack, Shiite political leaders have demanded US troops be expelled from Iraq, Reuters writes.

In order for the resolution to expel the US troops to be adopted, the Iraqi Parliament needs to vote on the proposal.
