The interim president of Algeria during the transitional period, Abdelkader Bin Saleh, submitted today, Saturday, his resignation from the presidency of the National Assembly, according to a statement by the Presidency of the Republic.

In a press statement today, the presidency said that President Abdel-Majid Taboun received a message from Saleh (78 years), notifying him of his desire to end his term at the head of the National Assembly.

The Algerian Parliament, in its two chambers, announced on April 9th the appointment of Abdelkader Ben Saleh as head of state for a period of 90 days, according to Article 102 of the Constitution, after he officially announced the final vacancy for the post of President of the Republic following the resignation of Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

According to the Algerian constitution, Ben Saleh will return to his position as Speaker of the National Assembly after the transitional period that he led, which was supposed to be no more than 90 days, while the period of his leadership of the Algerian state has been around nine months because of the refusal of the street movement in his country to hold presidential elections.
