This March 18, 2020 marks 25 years of a historic event: the wedding of Infanta Elena (56) with Jaime de Marichalar (56), son of the counts of Ripalda, which was celebrated in Seville before more than 1,500 guests, among them, leaders and royal houses around the world. The expectation was immense, as it was the first royal marriage in Spain since the reign of Alfonso XIII, in addition to that then the Royal Family, after the appearance of the Nóos y Corinnas case, had unanimous acceptance.
Queen Sofia was the image of happiness. Dressed with a turquoise model of the Sevillian fashion designer Toni Benítez, she walked on the arm of Prince Felipe, who at the age of 27 was entangled in love affairs with the American model Gigi Howard, whom she met while studying for her master's degree in International Relations at the University of Georgetown, in Washington. Doña Letizia and Urdangarin had not yet appeared in the heart of Infanta Cristina, who was dressed in red and with a mantilla.
The highlight was the entrance to the Cathedral of Infanta Elena, on the arm of Don Juan Carlos, the godfather, dressed in a bridal model by Pietro Valverde. Two anecdotes have been left for posterity: the Monarch had his right arm in plaster, as a result of a fall skiing in Candanchú; and the bride forgot to ask for the protocol to come to her father before saying "yes, I want". Marichalar's insistence on conquering Elena, whom he had met in Paris when he worked at Credit Suisse, bore fruit in a commitment announced in November 1994. As Elena de Borbón acknowledged in her request, "he did not stop until he convinced me."
The truth is that the couple, Dukes of Lugo after their wedding and initially settled in Paris, went to more, which contributed the birth of their children Felipe Juan Froilán on July 17, 1998 and Victoria Federica, on 9 September 2000. Neither of them has sentimentally remade their life and their relationship is limited exclusively to questions of their children, Froilán (21) and Victoria Federica (19), who no longer belong to the Royal Family, nor their mother, by decision of Don Philip after being proclaimed King.
Victoria drinks today the covers of the pink press for her love affairs with bullfighters and djs, her love of discos and her boho chic styling. Froilán is in the pillory because of his relationship with the rich heiress Mar Torres, who has lately been influenced. As the firstborn grandson of the Emeritus, he was a potential heir to the throne for seven years, until Leonor , first daughter of the monarchs, was born in October 2005, who turns 15 years old in 2020.
