Nine associations with a total of 839 apartments in Skärholmen have nipped on the offer to convert their rental properties into tenant-owned apartments. But many of the notifications have been sent in vain.

At least 60 percent rental rights

The City of Stockholm's conditions are that at least 60 per cent of the housing in the affected districts must remain tenant. This means that a total of 240 apartments may be redeveloped in Skärholmen, according to the latest figures on the number of rental properties.

Maria Milosz's association was first out in Skärholmen with its declaration of interest, but since the property contains 293 apartments, the condominiums appear to be too many.

- After all these years that we have been struggling to remodel our apartments, I still hope it will go through this time.

According to the City Councilor Dennis Wedin (M), the city will not tumble on the 60 percent block.

- In such a situation, you move on to the next smaller association. So my assessment is that we will be able to proceed with these applications in Skärholmen in one way or another.

The rules can completely stop conversions in Sätra

In the neighboring district of Sätra, only 35 apartments are allowed to be remodeled before reaching the lock. There, the conversions may be stopped completely because all the notified properties are too large.

The figures come from Stockholm Stadshus AB and are based on statistics from year-end 2017-2018, so the number of rental rights may have changed since then. In February, the city has fresh statistics to base on. Then you have to make decisions about which conversions are allowed.
