30 January 2019 Almost 650 kilos of cocaine were seized by the Guardia di Finanza and by the Customs Agencies at the port of Livorno: the drug, divided into 582 loaves, was hidden inside 23 bags placed in the container, above some white big bags containing coffee beans. After docking in port, the financiers got on board a ship flying the Portuguese flag, coming from Algericas (Spain), to inspect all the suspect containers and identified the one that contained 644 kilograms of cocaine.

The container was shipped by a Honduran coffee company and embarked on a motor ship in Puerto Cortes (Honduras) and then transferred to another ship in the port of Moin (Costa Rica), destined for landing in the Barcelona airport. The container was then destined for a Madrid-based company. But it never got there.

Inside one of the bags marked with red paint, the perfectly reproduced "clones" of the two seals affixed to the container door were found, which were likely to have been applied to the closures of the container after the extraction of the drug. For the investigators "it is one of the largest seizures of drugs. Certainly the largest in the last ten years conducted by the Guardia di Finanza of Livorno and by the local Customs and Monopolies Agency in the Labronic port".
