It is another consequence of climate change. In Stockholm, the Swedish capital, we used to celebrate Christmas and spend the holidays under the snow. In recent years, it is over. Winter is not over, and a cold spell can always be a game-changer. But for now, even the outdoor skating rink is struggling to function.

From our correspondent in Stockholm , Frédéric Faux

" There is a lot of water, the ice is soft, it's not normal, " said a passerby. " There is no snow here, I'm so disappointed, " said another. Every winter, the municipality of Stockholm installs an open-air ice rink in Kungsträdgarden, in the center of the city.

But this year, to the chagrin of tourists, it has a hard time keeping the ice in shape. Once again, the people of Stockholm did not spend the holidays in the snow, due to the lack of freezing temperatures, and nothing is planned in the next ten days. The last year in which all of Sweden was snow-capped at Christmas was in 2010.

No winter storm, but a rose

The frustration is so great that the Swedish news agency TT published a fictitious weather forecast by answering the question that everyone is asking: if all the rain that fell in December had been snow, how many centimeters of powder would have covered the streets ? The record would have been reached in Ullared, near Goteborg, with 1m74. In Malmö and Stockholm, we are already more than 50 centimeters away.

But for the moment, in these cities, almost no snowflake, and a disturbing phenomenon that Marianna, another skater, noticed: “ I saw the first flowers, roses, it's crazy! The only consolation for the Swedes in need of cold and snow: no winter storm, for now, has come to disrupt transport.
