It was at six o'clock on New Year's Day morning that the alarm about the murder came in to the police.

A middle-aged woman had then been found dead in an apartment at an address in central Sundsvall. Early in the police, police investigated a serious violent crime and arrested and arrested a suspected person on probable cause for murder on New Year's Day morning.

Police now confirm that the suspected perpetrator is also a woman.

Knew each other

- The victim and the suspect were already familiar with each other. Both are residents of Sundsvall, says Veronica Andersson, who is the head of the Investigation Section of the police in Västernorrland.

Has the suspect made any concessions?

- What the suspect said in interrogation is something I cannot comment on at present, says Veronica Andersson.

New Year Celebration

You have said before that it was a knife used, what can you say about it?

- I cannot comment on what this type of affection was, I would like to leave that unsaid.

Neither the murder victim nor the suspected woman lives at the address where the murder occurred.

According to lawyer Christian Shumkov from Örnsköldsvik who defends the arrested woman, she refuses a crime.

Witnesses exist

Are there witnesses to what happened?

- There are witnesses in the investigation. We hold interviews with many people who can provide information. If there are witnesses to the event itself, I have to leave it unsaid, I can't say today, says Veronica Andersson.

Is there evidence that binds the suspect to the murder?

- It is always difficult to say, we are at an early stage in the investigation. We feel that we have a good investigative position.

Four murders are investigated simultaneously

The suspected woman is now wanted to be arrested on probable grounds for murder. The detention hearing will be held on Friday.

The murder is the fourth in Medelpad in just under two months. At the beginning of November a man aged 30 at Skönsmon in Sundsvall was killed, on 11 December a man aged 20 was murdered in Ånge and a day later a 28-year-old was shot dead in Nacksta in Sundsvall. In all cases, suspects are detained.

According to the police, the murder during New Year's night has no connection to any of the other murder investigations.
