- This is about an in-depth course in police work. Many police officers have a lot of experience and knowledge, but there is a craving for a higher education. Now they have the opportunity to look at the experiences they have made in their work in a scientific way, says Cecilia Jonsson, associate professor at the Department of Police Work, who is responsible for the new education.

Great search pressure for the education

More than 100 police officers applied for the 25 places of education and because the demand was so great, the university decided to increase to 40 places.

Why do you think the interest is so great?

- I think it is connected to the fact that previously there were no opportunities for police officers to proceed within their own subject. This is the beginning of the development of a new academic subject.

Police can contribute to research

Peter Darwish has worked as a police officer for 15 years and now teaches police training in physical techniques and methods and he thinks it is good that further education can be the beginning of an academic career.

- The police research that exists in Sweden is mainly conducted by people other than police. This training is a way to increase the police force in that part. I think it's useful to have both perspectives. I think the police contribution to research can be positive in many ways, says Peter Darwish.

Would you like to go to education yourself?

- I've been thinking about it, but haven't decided yet. I think I and other experienced policemen find it very interesting.
