The residents of the Blekinge region have paid an average of SEK 822 per person for one year, for hired healthcare personnel. Only during 2019, from January to September, Blekinge's taxpayers were allowed to contribute SEK 635 per inhabitant.

The region wants to reduce costs

The Blekinge region is trying to reduce the cost of hired healthcare staff, and there has been a slight reduction from last year. The cost of hiring doctors has fallen by three per cent and the cost of other hired staff, such as administrative, has been zeroed.

It is the cost of nurses that continues to increase. This is because the need for more nurses remains, says Lennarth Förberg, chairman of the regional board.

- It is a problem that too much time is spent on administrative tasks instead of meeting patients. We will, from the political side, work a lot on trying to turn around next year, ”says Lennarth Förberg (M).

More administrative services

The Health and Medical Committee's chair, Emma Stjernlöf, believes that one should have some kind of administrative officer who can sit outside the department to have more overall responsibility. More administrative services are needed that can support the healthcare staff.

- Medical secretary is a group that is very important and that we should have recruited more of, says Emma Stjernlöf (M).
