In January 2019, the Venezuelan opponent Juan Guaido proclaims himself interim president, demanding the departure of Nicolas Maduro whose reelection he contests, in a country plagued by economic collapse and a serious migration crisis. Supported by the army, Nicolas Maduro remains in office. The year 2019 begins with a wind of contestation in Venezuela which will spread throughout South America to the Middle East, via Hong Kong.
