December 31, 2019 The patient who caught fire in the operating room during an operation for pancreatic cancer in Romania died after a week of agony. The 66-year-old woman, on the couch, was treated with an alcohol-based disinfectant which, on contact with an electric scalpel, caught fire, seriously burning her. With over 40% of her body burned, she survived a week in hospital before dying. Police opened an investigation; the family members claimed that they had not been informed by the doctors precisely about the incident but that they had only received news of an "accident". "We are not making accusations, we just want to understand what happened," they said.
