Kenyans Kibiwott Kandie and Brigid Kosgei won the men's and women's categories on Tuesday of the 95th edition of the New Year's Eve corrida, run on the last day of the year in the streets of Sao Paulo for a distance of 15km.

After a spectacular sprint in the final meters, Kandie blew the Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo on the line for a second and signed the race record.

With a time of 42min 59sec, the 23 year old Kenyan is the first to cover the 15km of New Year's Eve in less than 43 minutes.

The Kenyan Titus Ekiru completes this 100% African podium with a time of 43min 54sec.

Among the ladies, the Kenyan Brigid Kosgei won widely, far from the peloton, with a time of 48min 54sec, becoming one of the three women to go under 50 minutes. Without beating the record of his compatriot Jemina Sumgong in 2016 (48min 35sec).

Another Kenyan, Sheila Chelangat, climbed to second place (50 min 10 sec), ahead of the Ethiopian Tisadik Alem Nigus is third (50 min 12 sec).

More than 35,000 runners this year competed in the historic race, created in 1924, applauded by hundreds of people, many of whom were as usual in disguise.
