“We noticed that official Tallinn has repeatedly appealed to the so-called“ EU sanctions ”in an attempt to justify a gross violation of the rights of journalists of the Sputnik news agency in Estonia for professional activities,” RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

She emphasized that Moscow considers such actions of Tallinn as illegitimate, since it does not know about “any unilateral restrictions of the European Union” in relation to media representatives.

“We urge the competent authorities of the EU, in particular the European Council and the European Foreign Service, to give a proper assessment of the actions of the Estonian authorities and their references to the position of the European Union,” Zakharova concluded.

Earlier it became known that Sputnik Estonia employees received a notification from Swedbank about the closure of their bank accounts in the country.

December 18, Sputnik Estonia talked about receiving letters with threats of criminal prosecution in case of refusal to terminate cooperation with MIA "Russia Today" before January 1, 2020.

The Estonian Police and Border Guard Board explained the situation by the action of EU sanctions against Dmitry Kiselyov, Director General of the Russia Today MIA.
