Quim Torra feels amortized by separatism and by Carles Puigdemont himself, who already focuses exclusively on preventing ERC from assuming the presidency of the Generalitat when his vicar ends up disabled, either next Friday by the Central Electoral Board or in a few months by the Supreme Court.

That situation of helplessness already led the first head of the Catalan Executive convicted in the exercise of the charge to internally reprimand the deputies of JxCat, for taking his replacement for granted. Forgetting that the neo-convergent parliamentarians only pay homage to Puigdemont and not to his substitute, Torra demanded his classmates to "stand up" to the disqualification. Yesterday the president went one step further and implored the whole of the Catalan population.

Quim Torra used the traditional New Year's Eve message - broadcast live on TV3 - to try to make the Catalans believe that they were also condemned by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC). That they too are victims of a theoretical persecution of independence by the Spanish Justice.

«They didn't want to disable me. With this sentence, which was already written before starting the judicial process, they want to disable the president of Catalonia, ” Torra began, to later result in the challenge he already posed when his“ disobedience ”was legally accredited on December 19 .

«The Spanish State must know that the presidents are appointed and ceased by the Parliament. That is, the only legitimate representatives of citizenship. And I will not allow, nor will I accept that a court - and even less a political board - supplants the sovereignty of the Catalans, ”said the head of the Catalan Executive just four days after the Central Electoral Board meets to decide whether to respond to the requests raised by the PP and Citizens and dismisses Torra without having to wait for the Supreme Court to resolve the president's appeal to the conviction of the TSJC.

The message of the president of the Generalitat was addressed to that fictional town of Catalonia to which secessionism has been appealed so many times to justify its cause, but also to the whole of the independence forces, which it continues to claim without success to re-invest in the Parlament to propose a first-rate institutional pulse to the State.

The president of the Catalan Chamber and leader of ERC, Roger Torrent, has no intention of responding to Torra's request - at least in the maximalist terms proposed - much less after knowing the JxCat maneuvers to try to remove Pere Aragonès from the Vice Presidency of the Generalitat in order to prevent him from releasing Torra if he loses his position.

But it is that not only Republicans are suspicious of Torra's plan to receive the support of the Parliament again . Nor does the CUP agree with the idea, which yesterday avoided guaranteeing that it will support the president in the House in case of being disabled, considering that “the Government is exhausted” and that ERC, the PSC and the commons already work in a tripartite to govern together the Generalitat once the Catalan regional elections are inevitable.

That scenario is more than plausible in the coming months and could be precipitated if the Central Electoral Board evicts Torra on Friday. In that case - and as much as the president threatens to entrench himself by brandishing the "sovereignty of the Parliament" - the Aragonese vice president would assume the position on an interim basis and a maximum period of two months would be opened to invest an alternative president. After that period, the automatic call for elections would be inevitable and the clash between ERC and JxCat, perhaps with Puigdemont as a candidate, would be served.

Hence, Torra also used his Christmas message yesterday to begin to wear down ERC for his impending agreement with the PSOE to enable the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. «Without a commitment to give the floor to the citizens of Catalonia there is no honest dialogue, but the will to cover holes with expired patches. There is no solution for Catalonia that does not imply recognizing the right to self-determination and its exercise. We cannot deceive ourselves again, ”Torra said to the Republicans, who will be accused of having given their votes to the PSOE if they fail to ensure that the“ negotiating table on the conflict ”culminates in an independence referendum endorsed by the Socialist Government .
