Carolina Kostner will undergo hip surgery within the next month. The 'Ice Princess', the first Italian athlete to win a world title and an Olympic medal in figure skating, announced the operation on her left hip in a live Facebook from her home in Ortisei where she is spending the family holidays.

Kostner, 33 years old on February 8th, already engaged to ex-walker Alex Schwazer, has been far from competitions since March 2018 when on the ice of the Forum of Milan in the free program she threw to the wind what would have been the second world championship gold of her career after Nice 2012.

"As many of you know I have been struggling with hip pain for some time that has kept me away from many events - Carolina said that precisely because of this physical ailment she had to skip several shows in Italy - together with my medical staff, we have decided that at the end of January I will undergo hip surgery. " Kostner, meeting an update on her health condition, also said that "the goal is to get back on the ice as soon as possible".

At this point, it cannot be entirely excluded, even if difficult, that Carolina will try to reach the 2022 Beijing Olympics which would be the scenes of her career after Turin 2006, Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018. The women's skating movement on a global scale, however, it has evolved considerably compared to two years ago.
