Center of Exeter and XV of England Henry Slade, injured in an ankle, should be absent for "six to eight weeks" and will therefore miss the "Crunch" against France at the opening of the Six Nations Tournament on February 2 , his club announced on Monday.

"Henry has a small fracture in his ankle," said Rob Baxter, manager of Exeter, noting that it was the same one that had been fractured two years ago.

"The prognosis for an injury like this is six to eight weeks of recovery. There is no evidence yet to suggest that the delay could be faster or slower," added Baxter.

Slade, 26, was injured on December 21 in the Premier League against Leicester.

He has 27 selections for the England team since his international debut in August 2015. He was in particular part of the vice-world champion group in early November in Japan and entered the game in the lost final against South Africa (32 -12).
