The investiture of Pedro Sánchez is already in the hands of the ERC bases. The National Training Council chaired by Oriol Junqueras will vote on the agreement reached between the leadership of his party and the PSOE next Thursday at five in the afternoon. This decision will force the socialist candidate to start the investiture debate that same day without having yet received the endorsement of the Republicans if he intends to be anointed in the second round on January 5, on the eve of Kings, as he ambitions.

The final decision will fall on the 270 positions of ERC with voice and vote in that National Council - the highest body between congresses of the party - but the leadership presided over by Junqueras from prison already suggested yesterday to his cadres the need to abstain to enable Sánchez continue as the Government.

Republicans see in the presidency of the socialist a golden opportunity to consummate his separatist project, after checking how Sanchez folded, one by one, to his requirements, not to be expelled from La Moncloa.

Marta Vilalta, the spokeswoman for ERC and a member of the negotiating team that has dragged the Socialists to swallow with all the requirements posed by Junqueras, was crystalline yesterday: «It is an opportunity that the independence movement has to seize».

The also deputy general secretary of ERC uncovered Sánchez's weaknesses and realized the unstable legislature that is coming if the republican bases endorse the agreement, as is plausible. Vilalta, he said, for example, that the pact with the Socialists begins and ends in the investiture and does not entail any commitment to approve the General State Budgets. "Neither Budgets, nor stability, nor anything else," said the spokeswoman for the independence formation, who after supporting the motion of censure that led Sanchez to the presidency of the Government decided to knock down state accounts and lead the State to the forced call of early elections.
