The Sudanese Sovereign Council announced Monday the dispatch of security forces to West Darfur State (West) following tribal clashes, and decided to suspend the ongoing peace negotiations with the armed movements, with a curfew until Tuesday morning.

The Sovereign Council held an emergency meeting chaired by Council member Muhammad Hamdan Daglo and Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk at the Presidential Palace in Khartoum, to discuss the clashes in the city of El Geneina in the state, where the Council decided to immediately pay troops from various security agencies in order to control the security situation.

In a brief statement issued by the media, the Sovereign Council stated that it was decided to suspend peace negotiations with the armed movements of the Darfur process held in Juba for a period of 24 hours.

In turn, the authorities of West Darfur State announced in a statement that "after the State Security Committee deliberates about the events in the city of El Geneina ... It is prohibited to roam citizens in all parts of the state of West Darfur and its capital, El Geneina from five in the evening until six in the morning tomorrow."

On the other hand, the Sudanese Revolutionary Front, which includes three main armed movements in Darfur, announced the suspension of negotiations with the government on the path of the Darfur region "until the conditions are addressed and investigations are committed against the crimes committed against the citizens."

On Saturday, Juba witnessed the Sudanese government signing with the armed movements a framework agreement on the path of the Darfur region in peace negotiations, including participation in the transitional authority structures.

And local media reported that dozens of dead and wounded were killed in tribal clashes in a camp for the displaced, east of El Geneina, after a fight broke out on Sunday evening, the first clashes in the region since the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir in April.
