On Sunday morning, a bus driver was struck in the face by a person after the driver noticed that the driver had an invalid ticket.

- It's terrible and it feels very brutal to get a fist straight in the face. The driver just did his job, says Peter Andersson, human resources manager at Gamla Uppsala Buss AB.

The person who drove the bus feels good according to the circumstances, Peter Andersson informs.

- I talked to him yesterday and then he felt good. He comes here today to make a work injury claim. We will also offer call support, the important thing is that he is doing well.

Do you know when the bus driver will start working again?

- Not at this time, we will see what he says today when he comes into the office.

Are other bus drivers worried?

- Some of them are worried about their work environment. But we have had fewer similar incidents since January 2018 when we chose to change our notification routines.

What does this mean?

- For example, a notification routine is about how we inform the customer that they must have a valid ticket and other information.

Continued safety ombud stop

After the incident, the union issued a so-called safety ombud stop. This means that bus drivers do not have to check tickets for passengers who get on at the Travel Center or Stationsgatan.

Right now, people are still waiting for answers from the Swedish Work Environment Authority about when to stop the safety ombud stop.

A similar incident also happened in October this year where another bus driver was beaten by several people. An event that is under investigation.

- We have started an investigation together with the trade union Kommunal and we will have a meeting with the Swedish Work Environment Authority after New Year to find out how we will proceed in the matter.

The abuse was filmed

Just as with the abuse in October, there was also a surveillance camera in this bus.

- The police will look at the recording, and we hope there are good chances that they can arrest the perpetrator.
