Juri Krupenski works everyday as a lawyer in Estonia and competes for the Gotland chess club Burgsvik Alva. He has previously lived in Karlstad and opted out of the Stockholm Rilton Cup competition for the opportunity to visit the city.

- This tournament is much more than just chess. It is about good memories, atmosphere and company. Karlstad means a lot to me, says Juri Krupenski, who has played chess for almost his entire life.

Won after remi

Karlstad Open has been going for four days with eight rounds. Ahead of Monday's party, Juri Krupenski led with a point against his opponent and chose to offer remi.

- Sometimes it may feel a bit unsportsmanlike, but it is the tournament situation that can influence such decisions.
