A car bomb attack rocked the town of Mogadishu, Somalia, on Saturday December 28. According to an initial assessment, this attack killed at least 70 people. It has not yet been claimed, but Somalia is the target of the shebabs.

This bomb attack occurred this Saturday morning, around 7.40 am local time, in the middle of rush hour in the Somali capital.

The explosion took place at a checkpoint, very close to a particularly busy crossroads and a tax collection center, in the southwest of Mogadishu.

Among the victims of this attack: passers-by, officials on their way to work, but also some twenty students who went to Banaadir University. Their bus was severely hit by the explosion.

The Medina hospital announced to have counted more than 70 dead bodies since this Saturday morning, and more than 60 injured. But the toll could be much heavier.

On the spot, certain sources speak of at least 90 victims at least, which would make this attack one of the most serious since October 2017.

The 2017 attack remains the deadliest in Somalia's history to date . Some 512 people were killed and 295 injured in the explosion of a truck bomb in Mogadishu.
