Life-threatening injuries to six people - ambulances were not enough

There, five people were taken to hospitals with injuries, three of them serious injuries.

- It is about critical injuries in both cases, which means life-threatening injuries, says Lars Hedelin, the police's press spokesman.

Because of so many people being injured, the ambulance resources were not enough. In the accident in Älvdalen, Norwegian ambulances had to be helped to cope with the situation. The helicopter could not be used due to bad weather.

- There were four Swedish ambulances and two Norwegian ones that brought patients to hospital. We have a cooperation agreement that allows us to help in such situations, ”says Lars Hedelin.

In total, eleven people first went to the hospital in Mora, which means a huge pressure on the emergency room there.

- The burden in Mora cannot be played with now. Some patients may be relocated to other hospitals, but we do not know that at this time, the police spokesman said.

Huge amount of ski traffic in Dalarna

Earlier in the day there were a number of other minor accidents on the roads in Dalarna as well.

What is it that causes so many accidents now?

- It's hard to say, but we have a huge amount of ski traffic right now. People want to come home and forth. Combined with darkness and poor road conditions can be difficult at times, says Lars Hedelin.

Exactly what caused the accidents is not clear at this time. The police will investigate the incidents further. At present, no one is suspected of any crime, but that can be changed.
