The former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and the ex-seller Toni Comín, recently recognized as MEPs, plan to participate in a political event that will be convened soon in Catalunya Nord, in southern France, as reported by the Council for the Republic.

This body promoted by Puigdemont and Comín from Waterloo (Belgium) has announced, in a statement, that it plans to "summon a concentration in the Catalunya Nord soon" with the presence of both.

"It will undoubtedly be the best occasion to celebrate all the judicial and political victories that Catalan independence has achieved in recent times, as well as to denounce the repression of which the political and social leaders of the independence movement are victims and resume the democratic struggle that allows us to complete the path started on 1-O, "the statement said.

After the EU Court of Justice recognized the status of MEPs and their consequent immunity to Puigdemont and Comín, the Catalan president said on December 23 that he will not move to Perpignan (France), although He expressed "eagerness" to "go to Catalunya Nord" to hold an act or meeting of JxCat.

On the other hand, the Council for the Republic has ruled out to convene a concentration on January 13 in Strasbourg (France), where Puigdemont and Comín are expected to attend a plenary session of the European Parliament as MEPs for the first time.

The agency considers that the circumstances are no longer the same as those of last July 2, when there was an independence concentration during the first plenary session of the European legislature because they could not go to the same Puigdemont and Comin.

In any case, the Council for the Republic ensures that it will "respect" the events that may eventually be organized by civil society on January 13 in Strasbourg.
