  • Pacts: Check the support Sánchez needs to be invested

Pablo Casado has made an appeal on Friday to "historical socialism" and the "regional and provincial leaders" of the PSOE to stop the Pedro Sánchez pact with ERC to achieve his investiture.

In an intervention during a visit to Almoradí (Alicante), the leader of the PP has shown his amazement at the way in which Sánchez is negotiating the investiture: talking "with people who are in jail", "using" in its benefit to an institution like the State Advocacy and "without submitting to questions" for 14 days.

"The PSOE should ask itself if it can swallow with it," Casado said, calling on the socialist barons to intervene. Some of them, such as Emiliano García-Page (Castilla-La Mancha) or Javier Lambán (Aragón), have shown their reluctance before the agreement with ERC, but in practice none of them consider openly opposing the party leader.

Despite this, Casado has insisted. As he recalled, it is not true that Sanchez has no alternative, as the PSOE defends. In his opinion, one could explore a formula in which Citizens and Navarra Suma abstained, playing these parties the role of facilitators that the Socialists look for in ERC and allowing the Government of coalition with Podemos. Subsequently, the PP would support the approval of the Budgets in Congress and support the Executive in the main State matters, such as Justice, Defense or foreign policy.

"If Sanchez agrees with ERC, it is because he wants to; if he presses the Advocacy, it is because he is irresponsible. He is still in time to rectify," said Casado.

The truth is that the pact towards the center was ruled out by Sánchez immediately after the 10-N elections. Although post-election arithmetic was much more complicated than in the April elections, the possibility of an agreement with Citizens in the form of abstention or even favorable voting is viable. However, only two days after the elections Sanchez signed a government pact with Pablo Iglesias and then began to seek the support of Catalan independentistas, nationalists and regionalists throughout Spain.

Casado's trial of all this, expressed on Friday, is quite critical and resounding: "Pedro Sánchez tries to buy his investiture with criminals."
