Al-Houthi Minister of Fish Resources, Muhammad Al-Zubayri, revealed that the UAE is using a ship as a floating prison in the sea to detain fishermen, stressing that the ministry submitted more than one complaint to international organizations.
Al-Zubayri explained that the Emirati ship, bearing the name Abu Dhabi with Eritrean and Sudanese soldiers on board, was chasing fishermen and taking them and their ships to Eritrea, where the UAE has a military base.
He added that the Eritrean authorities are exercising arbitrary detention of Yemeni fishermen in violation of the joint fishing agreement between the two countries, noting that his group formed a joint committee from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Fish Resources and Coast Guard to follow up the file of the fishermen detention.
He called on the international community to put an end to what he described as "Emirati piracy" in the Red Sea and the kidnapping of fishermen and fishing boats.
