• Catalan CIS.ERC would win the Catalan elections and independence would increase its majority
  • Puigdemont. "European Justice has done more for the resolution of the conflict than two years of repression of the Spanish State"
  • The sentence. The TSJC condemns a year and a half of disqualification and a fine of 30,000 euros to Torra for disobedience

Despite Carles Puigdemont's triumphant entry into the European Parliament to collect his MEP accreditation, the concern continues to increase in JxCat given the growing prominence that ERC is acquiring as a hegemonic actor of Catalan independence.

The former president does not miss that who forced the European Justice's support for separatism was Oriol Junqueras, that it is the Republicans who are bending Pedro Sánchez to condition the governance of Spain, nor that, in a few months, Pere Aragonès could assume the acting presidency of the Generalitat if the Supreme Court ends up disabling Quim Torra for disobedience.

With Torra evicted, it would be the vice president of the Government and national coordinator of ERC who would inherit his position on an interim basis, being able to hold him for two months until the automatic call for elections planned in case the separatist forces did not agree to invest a new president , something that can be taken for granted considering his fierce confrontation.

That scenario is "extremely worrying" for Puigdemont, according to neo-convergent sources, confirming the desire of the former president of the Generalitat and his vicar Torra to remove Aragonès from the vice presidency and put in place a JxCat advisor so that the eventual ERC candidate does not have two months of campaign as president . Fact that would trigger the options of the Republicans to take over the presidency of the Generalitat. Even with Torra as head of the Catalan Executive, the Center for Opinion Studies of the Generalitat (CEO) predicts that ERC would win with up to 10 seats ahead of JxCat.

JxCat's arguments

The argument of Puigdemont and Torra is that ERC cannot claim to conquer the headquarters of the Generalitat "taking advantage of a state maneuver to drive the president ". The same neo-convergent sources also stress "that the polls did not grant the presidency to ERC", since JxCat was the most voted independence party in the 21-D elections, the ones after the application of article 155.

Under that premise, Torra would like to force a government crisis to grant the vice presidency to one of the faithful of Puigdemont. Always willing to prosper is Jordi Puigneró , the current advisor of Digital Policies and Public Administration. The president would also like to take advantage of the Executive's modification to expel the Interior Minister, Miquel Buch . An exit that Torra craves since the Mossos d'Esquadra responded to violent protests against the 1-O ruling, but has not yet been able to execute.

Nor does it seem simple that the head of the Catalan Executive is now able to complete his plan to contain the height of ERC. "We are suffering very little," say sources of the leadership of the party headed by Junqueras. Republicans remember that the Governance pact signed by JxCat after intense negotiations grants the vice presidency to ERC and that this attribution is not modifiable depending on the political or judicial situation during the term of the legislature.

ERC trusts that the trick of Torra never surpasses the reverie, and that he fails to raise it. If it did, the Republicans should choose between swallowing with the blackmail of their government partners or defending the vice presidency of Aragonès, something that would allow Torra to advance the elections and blame ERC for the call. A favorable scenario to resubmit Puigdemont as a candidate.
