The Government of the Region of Murcia announced on Thursday the filing of a contentious administrative appeal before the National Court for the last zero transfer of the Ministry for Ecological Transition for irrigation in December, despite having favorable technical reports.

This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Antonio Luengo , at the press conference of the Governing Council, who has warned that "we will exhaust all legal means for the Government of the nation to give us the water that corresponds to us ".

This is an "unjustified and arbitrary" decision, which is why the judicial process begins after knowing "this latest attack by the Government of the nation on the Tajo-Segura transfer," said the Murcian environmental officer.

The regional Executive has approved the filing of a contentious administrative appeal before the decision to transfer water from the Entrepeñas-Buendía reservoirs, through the Tajo-Segura aqueduct , of 7.5 cubic hectometers for the month of December 2019, whose ministerial order was published on December 20 in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

The contentious administrative appeal will be brought before the National Court because it is a rule dictated by a central Administration. Counselor Luengo recalled that a previous requirement was sent by the Murcia Ministry to the Ministry of Ecological Transition by a previous decision, adopted in November, not to transfer water for irrigation.

Andalusia asks for a meeting with the minister

For its part, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Junta de Andalucía , Carmen Crespo , has criticized the decision of the central government and hopes that it will "rectify" the decision, which it has described as "unfair." The Andalusian official warned that the decision also affects farmers and irrigators in Almeria , that "they do not deserve this" when "there is no objective reason" to adopt this measure.

Carmen Crespo has requested a meeting with the Minister for Ecological Transition in operation, Teresa Ribera, to address this issue and "review" that decision. The Andalusian Minister has made it clear that these decisions are already "affecting" both the Government of the Board and its own portfolio.

"Andalusia is growing and we must have a respect for this autonomous community, which is making an important effort to grow above what it did before," he said. Along these lines, Crespo has stressed that in the last year, exports of Andalusian agri-food products have increased by 5% -9% in the case of Almería-, although this work leads to face "fundamental challenges" in 2020, for what will be held in January a meeting at the regional level with the fruit and vegetable sector.

Along with the effects derived from Brexit and tariffs, Crespo has indicated that the Board will work to achieve "fair prices", so that in the first quarter of the year a strategic plan for the competitiveness of the agri-food sector will be presented.

Along the same lines, the Andalusian Minister has highlighted the lines of open aid for companies. "One of the contributions to agrifood companies was signed today, in this case, to the SAT Los Guiraos de Almería , with 700,000 euros," he has set as an example.

"It has been a year of greater export, but with important challenges fundamentally aimed at a fair price for the farmer, the farmer, the fisherman," said the counselor.
