He had gone out with the dog, but never came back. The man, who is in his 70s, was found in the street with serious injuries and was pronounced dead that night. The Norwegian police do not believe the man was a randomly selected victim, reports the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet.
During Christmas Eve the police went out with an investigation in the Schengen area and at 11.30 on the second day a suspected man was arrested by a Swedish police officer at the Clarion hotel in Arvika.
The Värmland Police are representative of the incident, but state that the man arrested is a Norwegian citizen.
"The case is closed for us," says the commanding officer in the Bergsslagen region.
