- We have a case that is very directly linked to a Christmas table. Then we have had a chocolate poisoning inside, and a dog that has come over garbage. So we can say that we have had three cases in the past 24 hours, which are in some way associated with Christmas celebrations, says Li Hedenström, who is marketing and communication manager at the University Animal Hospital (UDS) in Uppsala.

And that's less than usual during the corresponding day, says Li Hedenström.

Of all pets, it is most common for dogs to get sick from eating Christmas food. Of the dogs that come into the University Animal Hospital at SLU (UDS), few have been fed Christmas food. Instead, the "accident" has often come and the dog has come across the food in different ways.

- I think that animal owners generally have a good track of what their animals are allowed to eat nowadays, says Li Hedenström.

Risk of dying from Christmas food

The consequences of the Christmas food can vary from nausea to being deadly to the animals.

At the reception at UDS we meet Lisa Illiminsky, who is here with her German shepherd dog Enso. He has problems with the ears.

Lisa Illiminsky has good knowledge about what is toxic to Enso, but notes that the list is long and it is important to be vigilant.

In the clip, Lisa Illiminsky tells how the chops and their last dog went. And below you will see a list of what is toxic for your pets to eat.
