US President Donald Trump announced today, Tuesday, that he and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping will attend the signing ceremony of the first phase of the US-China trade agreement reached this month.

"We will hold a signing ceremony ... Yes, we will meet together in the end and we will have a faster signature because we want to complete it, the agreement has been completed and is only being translated at the moment," Trump told reporters.

On December 13th, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthiser said that representatives of the two countries will sign the "Phase 1" of the trade agreement in the first week of January 2020.

Beijing has yet to confirm specific elements of the agreement released by US officials, and a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said last week that details would be announced after the official signature.
