Both men are believed to have had organizing and coordinating roles in the business. The other two persons who are considered guilty receive significantly lower prison sentences of four years and one year in prison respectively. Everyone involved is convicted of participating in smuggling in 190 kilos of pregabalin but also known by the Lyrica brand. The preparation has been packed in capsules in an apartment in Malmö and sent to customers, according to the district court. The value of the drug is estimated at around SEK 190 million.
- We have estimated that the penal value of pregabalin can almost be compared with cannabis, tramadol and certain benzodiazepines, says councilor Martin Sunnqvist in a press release.
All defendants deny the deeds. However, one of the convicted men admits that he retrieved parcels containing the drug but was not aware of the contents.
