The European Union today called on all parties in Libya to show restraint, in light of the escalation of military tension, especially in the vicinity of the capital, Tripoli.

European Commission spokesman Peter Stano stressed in a statement that the Libyan conflict cannot be resolved militarily, stressing the need to focus on the political proposals submitted by the United Nations, which were negotiated.

He also stressed the need for all members of the international community to abide by the arms embargo imposed on Libya, reiterating the Union's support for the political negotiations led by the UN envoy to Ghassan Salama.
