As indicated in the publication, researchers at the RAND Corporation analytical center came to the conclusion that field artillery of the US Army in the last decades began to yield to Russian weapons.

It is noted that since the beginning of the 2000s, the American army has concentrated on fighting rebels, in particular in Iraq and Afghanistan. In this regard, the United States began to focus on airplanes and helicopters, and not on artillery.

The article states that this has led to the fact that the artillery units now "have much less experience and capabilities compared to their predecessors." This weakening occurred against the background of how the effectiveness of Russian artillery remained the same.

As the article emphasizes, Russia currently has at its disposal such effective and long-range weapons as, for example, Smerch multiple launch rocket systems and Iskander missile systems. At the same time, the American howitzer "Paladin" has very modest parameters for firing range.

At the same time, the author writes that Russian air defense systems can level the American air advantage, so it is important for the United States to begin to improve its artillery.

Earlier, The National Interest called the “worst nightmare” for China and Russia, which can be implemented by US authorities.
