• Germany: The attack on the Berlin Christmas market leaves at least 12 dead and 48 wounded

Berlin police evacuated the Christmas market on Saturday that was the scene of a deadly attack three years ago to investigate a suspicious object.

Tunisian Anis Amri crashed a truck at the Christmas market in Breitscheidplatz in 2016, killing 12 people. Subsequently, the Italian police shot him dead after fleeing Germany.

"Currently, our colleagues are working at the #Breitscheidplatz Christmas Market and are cleaning it to follow the indications of a possible suspicious object," the Berlin police tweeted.

"All visitors left the Christmas market in a calm and calm way. Thank you. Our colleagues are now starting the search at #Breitscheidplatz and at the Memorial Church, " police said shortly after.

The Bild newspaper has reported that the police had arrested two men, both Syrians, who said they had experience with explosives. Bild did not cite his source.

Amri, who had militant Islamist ties, kidnapped a truck and drove it to Breitscheidplatz in December 2016.

Berlin police said that due to their investigation on Saturday, the trains did not stop at the nearby zoo station.
