Before the Indian Ocean tsunami that killed more than 220,000 people and lost it, 15 years ago on 26th of this month, one of the stricken areas in Sri Lanka is trying to revive coral affected by the tsunami On the 21st, new coral seedlings were planted.

Coral seedlings were planted at Seenigama, located in southwestern Sri Lanka.

This area was once known as one of the country's leading coral colonies, but most of it was lost in the tsunami and overfishing 15 years ago.

On the 21st, NGO members left with a concrete pedestal on the ship for planting coral seedlings.

Then, they planted coral seedlings of about 2 cm on a pedestal placed on the sea floor at a depth of 4 meters.

According to this NGO, coral seedlings can grow to about 10 to 15 cm in a year if they grow well.

"I still remember the broken pieces of coral that had been launched after the tsunami," said NGO member Randil Mendis, 34, who planted the corals. I hope we can contribute to the local economy. "
