Nine of the fatal accidents have occurred on national roads 56, 68 (E16 between Storvik and Gävle), 83 and 84 in Hälsingland, and E4. The Europavägen road is mainly accidents north of Hudiksvall towards the county border to Västernorrland.

- It is mainly the major roads that do not have a central railing that are distinguished in the accident statistics, says Lars-Eric Abrahamsson, operations manager of the road safety association NTF Gävleborg.

During last year's Christmas week, December 20-27, the police reported a total of 13 traffic accidents. Almost half of them took place on roads in Hudiksvall. In total, there were 119 accidents reported and 148 injured.

Christmas traffic - treacherous

Keep the right speed, use a seat belt, be sober - the tips are many but vital. NTF Gävleborg warns that the traffic situation for the upcoming Christmas and New Year can be treacherous.

- According to the forecasts, the temperature is expected to be around zero when the weekend traffic starts, so it is important to be aware that the wet roads can freeze, says Lars-Eric Abrahamsson.

Treacherous ice

Among other things, NTF warns of the so-called "black ice" which can appear very treacherous as it is difficult to detect. "In addition, there is also often poor visibility in this type of road law, especially when driving in the dark," writes the association.
